Latest company news about WRC-23 Allocates New Ka Downlink Spectrum for Americas; Wideband Ka LNBs & WR42 Waveguide Become Industry Standards

The World Radiocommunication Conference 2023 (WRC-23) reached a landmark spectrum allocation agreement, designating the new 17.3–17.7 GHz space-to-earth band for Fixed Satellite Service (FSS) in ITU Region 2 (the Americas). Harmonized coexistence rules for both GEO and NGSO high-throughput satellites were also issued, greatly easing the shortage of Ka-band spectrum resources across the Americas market.

Expanded spectrum resources accelerate the standardization of ground terminal hardware. Wideband Ka LNBs covering the full 17.6–26.7 GHz frequency range have become the core receiving unit for global VSAT and FSS earth stations. For RF interconnection, the WR42 waveguide interface optimized for Ka-band performance has been universally recognized as an industry standard. It eliminates compatibility barriers among antennas, feedhorns and LNBs from different manufacturers and reduces hardware matching and bulk procurement costs for large-scale satellite network rollouts.

The newly allocated band delivers abundant bandwidth capacity to support high-throughput services including in-flight aviation connectivity, offshore maritime broadband, enterprise private VSAT networks and high-speed rural satellite access, fueling continuous upgrading and procurement demand across the global Ka-band RF component supply chain.
