Why is "Ultra-High Out-of-Band Suppression" So Critical?

In 5G+satellite integrated terminals, especially in scenarios supporting Direct-to-Device (D2D) connectivity with Low Earth Orbit satellites, the RF front-end faces unprecedented challenges:

Extremely Complex Electromagnetic Environment:

  • Dense Ground 5G Signals: The terminal may be surrounded by multiple powerful 5G base stations and user equipment, operating across numerous frequency bands (Sub-6GHz and even mmWave).
  • Extremely Weak Satellite Signals: Signals from satellites hundreds of kilometers away are very faint.
  • Close Proximity of Frequency Bands: Some satellite communication bands (e.g., parts of S-band, Ka-band) are adjacent to or interleaved with terrestrial 5G NR bands.


Core Interference Issues:

  • Strong In-Band/Adjacent Channel Interference: Powerful terrestrial 5G signals can act like "roaring loudspeakers," drowning out the faint "satellite whisper." They can also saturate and block the terminal's satellite receiver Low-Noise Amplifier (LNA), rendering it completely unable to receive satellite signals. This is the most critical receiver blocking problem.
  • Transmit Interference: When the terminal transmits uplink signals to the satellite, noise and spurious emissions from its transmitter chain may leak into adjacent frequency bands used for receiving terrestrial 5G signals, causing self-interference.
The Role of the Ultra-High Out-of-Band Suppression Frequency Converter

The Frequency Converter is the core component of the RF front-end. It downconverts high-frequency signals received by the antenna to an intermediate frequency for processing, or upconverts intermediate frequency signals to a high frequency for transmission.

"Ultra-High Out-of-Band Suppression" means this converter must possess an exceptionally steep, highly selective filtering characteristic that can:

  • During reception: Allow only the weak target satellite frequency band signal to pass, while heavily attenuating (suppressing) all adjacent, powerful terrestrial 5G signals and other interference.
  • During transmission: Emit the satellite uplink signal purely, ensuring its noise and spurious emissions do not pollute the terminal's own terrestrial receive bands.
