What is an LNB?

An LNB (Low Noise Block) or LNC (Low Noise Converter) is used for communications satellite reception. Mounted on the satellite dish, it collects and amplifies satellite signals, then down-converts them to manageable IF frequencies for transmission over coaxial cabling to the receiver. Available in C-Band, Ku-Band, and Ka-Band frequencies.

The feedhorn is a directional component of the LNB that captures signals reflected from the dish while shielding against extraneous radiation. It passes collected signals to the LNB electronics. Available in orthogonal feed, offset feed, and elliptical feed configurations.

What is a Monoblock LNB?

A Monoblock LNB contains two independent LNBs in a single housing, enabling reception from two different satellites at slightly different orbital positions using a single dish. Switching between satellites is achieved via DiSEqC signals. Typically available for satellites with 2°/3°/4.3°/6° spacing in Ku band with single, twin, and quad outputs.
