With the enforcement of EU Regulation 2021/1778, all global C-band VSAT/FSS terminals must finish 5G-resistant upgrade by the end of 2026. The mainstream solution is C-band LNB integrated with a 100MHz guard band filter, which effectively blocks 3.4–3.7 GHz terrestrial 5G signals, eliminating critical issues including LNA saturation, 4–6 dB SNR loss and intermittent link outages caused by spectrum overlap.
For high-interference areas such as downtown districts, ports and rooftop installations, relying solely on a 100MHz guard band filter has performance limits. The industry has sorted out four supplementary interference mitigation solutions that cover all dimensions including RF hardware upgrades, antenna spatial isolation, coordinated management of terrestrial 5G base stations, and digital software compensation.
External CPR229 waveguide cavity filters, native narrowband C-band LNBs, multi-stage cascaded filters and high-linear P1dB LNA cores provide multi-layer attenuation to 5G spurious signals, achieving up to 120dB rejection for sites adjacent to high-power 5G macro stations.
Solutions include lateral metal shielding fences, high front-to-back ratio narrow-beam feedhorns, natural terrain/building barriers and frequency-selective metasurfaces. They suppress line-of-sight and reflected interference without extra RF insertion loss.
Mobile operators reduce transmit power, adjust antenna downtilt angles and implement frequency/time slot avoidance to cut interference at the emission source, widely adopted for enterprise backbone earth stations.
ACM adaptive coding & modulation, dual-antenna diversity reception and DSP IF digital filtering improve link fault tolerance as secondary safeguards, working together with front-end hardware filters.
Seton’s full portfolio of C/Ku/Ka-band LNBs complies with global SATCOM spectrum coexistence standards. Our products are mass exported to EU, Southeast Asia and Latin America, delivering one-stop 5G interference upgrade solutions for VSAT/FSS operators worldwide.
